In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Major John McCrae

Endings are endings
final
finite
but only in this world
this realm
there are others we can visit
as we leave this one
of this I am sure
because I believe
in the unbelievable
and cast aside all fear
to pursue
the incomparable
adventure.

Cars line up
on the city streets
bumper to bumper
somehow pedestrians
weave between them
the sounds of horns
shouts, a distant jackhammer
air brakes on a bus
deep down base
from a passing two door
electric yellow
demanding attention
ending the red light monotony.

Raspberry canes sprout
through the empty eye-sockets
in the sun bleached skull
half hidden in the leaves
of yesterday’s autumn
reminders that tomorrow
may never come for you
but it comes nonetheless.
